Old Spitalfields shows its brand ex versatility
International Fitness Week got underway at Old Spitalfield’s Market (OSM) on 8th March. Fitness First launched its International Fitness Week with Spice Girl, Mel B. Derek Crawford, Fitness First's UK national fitness director, anticipated the launch: "[Old] Spitalfields Market is the perfect location for the launch of International Fitness Week. We have high-profile celebrity, Mel B in London to launch the event and we're expecting a great turnout to boost this already bustling venue.”
After Fitness, a book launch. Man Booker prize-shortlisted novelist, David Mitchell's latest offering The Thousand Autumns of Jacob de Zoet, will be showcased between the 15th and 18th of March, by his publisher, Hodder and Stoughton, in a Japanese teahouse-style 'Reading Room' that will be built inside the venue’s Victorian market hall.
A spokesperson for the Reading Room commented: "Old Spitalfields Market is the perfect location because of its strong association with arts and culture and like the teahouse, gives Londoners respite from the grind of daily life."
A strong line up of events through Spring into Summer look set to add to OSM’s visitor appeal as a destination.
Ellie Barnatt, OSM's events manager, said: "Last year, we played host to the Japanese Matsuri Cultural Festival, Thomson Reuters EIKON Launch, The London Restaurant Festival's Award Ceremony and Origin: The London Craft Fair - to name a few."
"This year, we will continue to be the venue of choice - not only with repeat bookings - but with the recently-secured contracts, there will be some fantastic new events that will really put OSM at the heart of London's events scene."
