UK TV's Blighty engages Royal Wedding viewers with Contact
UKTV selected Contact Field Marketing &Solutions to distribute 25,000 periscopes advertising the Blighty TV channel to members of the public visiting London on the day that Prince William and Kate Middleton were married.
25 staff and supervisors were deployed early in the morning outside tube stations along the wedding route. The brief was to hand out 1,000 periscopes each in a 3 hour shift. Logistically it was a challenge due to the road closures that Contact overcame using a carefully co-ordinated route between the van drivers and supervisors.
Each team was organised into two groups, one group covering all exits of the tube station and the others went further afield (towards the planned procession route) The teams were instructed to head to where people have already picked their spot to watch the wedding. The aim was to have as many periscopes as possible on show in any one location.
The periscope activity was a huge success; all supervisors reported 100% distribution by 10.15 am. It was a fantastic atmosphere, people were over the moon to take the periscopes and the Much television coverage and newspaper reporting had the name Blighty in shot. Phillip Schofield mentioned the periscopes during his live coverage of the wedding.
A spokesman for Blighty commented: "We are absolutely thrilled with the results of the periscope activity and well done to your team. Our press team have got copies of all the coverage, Periscopes galore seen in the BBC and ITV coverage as well as reports from friends and family in Australia and the US of periscopes spotted in their coverage too. Entertainment Tonight actually held one up on screen and talked about it!"
