Nando's xPERimental Sketch draws on artistic ambitions
A first educational art workshop hosted by Nando’s has been hailed as a great success. The event, hosted yesterday at a venue on London’s South Bank is part of Nando’s ongoing xPERimental series of immersive events, created by agency Pretty Green.
Nando's, the PERi-PERi lover's restaurant, held the first ever xPERimental Sketch event on Sunday 22nd May at London's Bargehouse, Oxo Tower Wharf. The event brought together top art collective Monorex and established South African artists. The event taught kids the skills they need to create their very own masterpieces.
Guided by the artists, young people between the ages of 12 and 18 took up their chance to learn skills in various art techniques such as spray-paint, sculpture and T-Shirt printing. Intriguing pen ‘drawing battles’ were also a part of the scheduled activities.
A free for all project, xPERimental Sketch gives kids that pre-register the chance to experience a workshop with the artists. A taster session is on offer for those who turn up on the day. And of course, the famous Nando's PERi-PERi BBQ is there in support of the classes.
Speaking to Fieldmarketing.com, Nuala Ginty, head of music and culture, Pretty Green commented on the immediate buzz after the first event: “The event was really well received. This is the first Nandos xPERimental Sketch event and there were 200 attendees taking part. Artists were on-hand to mentor kids including Sweaty Eskimo, Jimi Crayon, Rasty, Monorex, Hit and Run and Jiggery Pokery. Sessions were 90 minutes each and were designed to give youngsters who are interested in art a helping hand and an opportunity to try something they wouldn't usually get the chance to do.”
That theme – providing youngsters with opportunity – has prevailed in previous xPERimental outings.
Says Nuala, “Previous events have included a music event and a national skateboarding tour.”
The link between the brand and art is also established. Nuala continues: “Nando’s is one of the biggest collectors of South African art in the world, which is displayed in restaurants across the country. It was a natural step for the brand to introduce art to the xPERimental concept.”
