Lloyds TSB's tour gains credit in the communities
Lloyd’s TSB has created a tour of Olympic grass roots appeal in support of its London 2012 sponsorship. The tour, which is following the route for next year’s Olympic torch relay is connecting the bank with communities and local achievers across Britain in a way that is creating a hit with the roadshow visitors.
Lloyd’s TSB is one of three Olympic sponsors that is currently on a nationwide quest to search for Olympic flame bearers. The other two sponsors doing so are Coca Cola and Samsung. Lloyds TSB is the only National Presenting Partner for next year’s official Olympic torch relay, so the current activity is, in effect, something of a dry run. Next year community parties are expected to spring up as the torch makes its progress around the country.
This year’s Torchbearer nomination campaign Tour started on 9th June when Four-time Olympic Champion Sir Chris Hoy and Olympian Mark Foster have called on the nation to recognise people who have made a difference in their local communities, by nominating them to carry the Olympic Flame.
Sir Chris and Mark have been among the first to nominate and encourage the public to get involved by submitting and sharing their own Torchbearer nominations. Sir Chris has nominated Geoff Cooke, whose competitive career spans six decades and who was the British Cycling’s national coach for ten years; as well as 94 year-old Andy Coogan, a World War II veteran and former champion middle distance runner from Carnoustie, Scotland who missed the chance to fulfill his athletics potential because of the war, but who still supports and coaches runners today.
The Torch Tour exhibition takes visitors on a journey through Olympic Torch Relay history, showcasing torches from past Relays and offers the chance to have your photo taken with the prototype London 2012 Olympic Torch. A white London cab is also accompanying the tour offering the chance to record a video nomination in favour of a flame bearer in a booth in the back.
The Tour is visiting over 80 communities across the UK, including schools, town and city centres, and Lloyds TSB branches.
Because of the extensive nature of this tour Fieldmarketing.com has been able to get a flavour of it at several stops en route including Bedford Square, Exeter where we mystery shopped it using crowdsourcing from Field Agent. Our mystery shopper gave the promotion full marks.
Two days ago the tour made it to Reading where the local reporter at Get Reading noted the large numbers of people attending the travelling exhibition.Carol Walker, the Lloyds TSB Reading ambassador for the torch relay, told press that 200 people had visited the roadshow in the first 90 minutes. She said: “The purpose of the roadshow today is to promote London 2012 and to bring it alive to the local community.
