World's first avacado Tweet-a-long
The world’s first avocado ‘Tweet-a-long’ took place on Tuesday 26th October in London.
The demonstration saw Masterchef 2005 winner Thomasina Miers go head-to-head in a cookery challenge against Tom Parker-Bowles at her new Wahaca restaurant on Wardour Street. Both chefs designed and prepared their favourite avocado dishes, which were then broadcast live on Twitter.
Tweeters following @AvocadoBrother, @Wahaca and @Thomasinamiers could follow the recipes step-by-step online. Information was also available on the Avocado Brotherhood blog, which can be found at: http://avocadobrotherhood.blogspot.com/
Thomasina prepared chicken, avocado and basil salad crostinis with yoghurt and garlic dressing, whilst Tom prepared lime-marinated prawn and avocado pittas.
The ‘Tweet-a-long’ was part of Avocado Week 2010 which takes place from October 25th – 31st. Avocado Week aims to promote Chilean Hass avocados in the UK, and during the week there have been many opportunities to try avocados in supermarkets around Britain, magazine articles and recipes, and a roaming avocado lecturer.
Thomasina Miers, who was recently declared number one in a chart of celebrity chef Tweeters, said: “I am delighted to be part of Avocado Week. It still amazes me that so few of us eat them – only a quarter of us in the UK have caught on to this healthy treat. “
